Programme at Glance
The South African Transplantation Society’s bi-annual congress will take place in Durban, South Africa from 29 July to 2 August 2013 and will include the following two main events on the programme:
- 29, 30 July 2013 : Global Alliance on Transplantation Pre-congress Workshop
- 31 July, 2 August 2013 : 25th SATS Congress
During the first two days The Transplantation Society (TTS) and Southern African Transplantation Society (SATS) are collaborating to set up a program of Education and Training in Africa. We intend to partner young upcoming transplantation centers in Africa with well-established transplant programs from elsewhere in the world. The idea is to establish long-term relationships in which African surgeons and physicians can get training, education and advice from a sister center elsewhere in the world.
We would like to invite you to participate in this program on Monday 29 and Tuesday 30 July 2013. At this meeting you will get to know some African delegates and we will be able to learn from them where they are currently with transplantation/ renal replacement therapy in their respective countries. You will be introduced to specific delegates from an African center and some South African and overseas centers will be asked to become a mentor to their programs. We are hoping that you will be able to provide continuous support to this African center and its clinicians. It might also mean that some of the African delegates visit your center for training and education in the future. The Transplantation Society is making available some funding for this startup meeting as well as for continuous support for this program.
This Global Alliance on Transplantation Workshop will coincide with the Southern African Transplantation Society's bi-annual congress as well as with the World Transplant Games.
An exciting number of international speakers will attend this congress.
The following topics are focus areas for the congress programme:
- Transplant Infectious Diseases
- Transplantation Coordination and Ethics
- Transplantation in Developing Countries
- Simultaneous Kidney Pancreas Transplantation
